Thomasville kicks-off Memorial Day Weekend celebrations

THOMASVILLE, N.C. –On Friday, city and county leaders, a Medal of Honor recipient and the community kicked- off Memorial Day Weekend celebrations in Thomasville.

This year marks the 25th year that Thomasville has been the home of the North Carolina Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.

Honored guests of the celebration included, Medal of Honor recipient, Rodolpho "Rudy" Hernandez, who was awarded the honor by President Harry Truman in 1952, for acts of bravery during the Korean War and General George Patton's grandson, George Patton Waters.

Thomasville will continue with the celebration with a parade on Monday, beginning at 11:20 a.m. The parade will start at the “Big Chair” and end at Cushwa Stadium.
