Teen crashes stolen SUV into Winston-Salem house

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police arrested a 16-year-old accused of driving a stolen SUV into a house Thursday night in Winston-Salem.

Dashaun Laurell Henderson allegedly crashed a 2003 Land Rover into 1234 East 24th Street and was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene.

Police said people were home at the time of the wreck, but no injuries were reported.

Officers said the Land Rover was stolen earlier in the day from a home in the 3700 block of Old Lexington Road.

Police said the saw the SUV and tried stopping it, but it sped away with its lights off, running into the home on 24th Street.

About $10,000 worth of damage was reported.

Henderson was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, and hit and run with leaving the scene. He received a $5,000 secured bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
