Police ID victim in deadly accident on US 29

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police have identified a man who was killed early Thursday morning in an accident on Highway 29 in Greensboro.

Police said the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix lost control near Phillips Ave. just after midnight. The car ran off the road, flipped several times and crashed into a guardrail.

The passenger, Arturo Sanchez Alcantara, 21, of Greensboro, was killed.

The driver has been identified as Edwin Michael Alarcon, 20, of Greensboro. He was taken to the hospital with “serious” injuries.

There are charges pending against Alarcon in reference to felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Other charges related to the accident are pending.

The southbound lanes of Highway 29 were closed for a short period of time while police investigate the accident.
