YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. — A Sophia man was killed Wednesday in head-on crash involving three vehicles on Highway 67 in Yadkin County.

Ronald Lee Hubbard, 60, died in the wreck, which happened on Highway 67 at Davis Road in East Bend around 4 p.m., according to the State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Hubbard, who was driving a 2005 Kia minivan east on the highway, crossed the center lines and sideswiped a westbound Ford pickup truck.

The initial collision knocked Hubbard’s minivan sideways, at which point it was struck on its passenger side by a westbound Chevrolet Suburban, troopers said.

The second collision knocked Hubbard’s minivan off the road, after which it rolled down an embankment and overturned, troopers said.

Hubbard was wearing a seatbelt, but he was partially ejected from the minivan as a result of the collisions, troopers said.

Troopers said neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash, but they haven’t yet determined why Hubbard crossed the center lines.

Charges are not expected to be filed against either of the other drivers.

Troopers previously said two others were injured in the crash and taken to area hospitals.

It was not clear who else was injured, but troopers identified the driver of the SUV as Cynthia Garcia.  The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Donald Sloan of East Bend.
