WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Jefferson Elementary School in Winston-Salem was closed Tuesday due to flooding, but the school will resume its normal schedule Wednesday.

Officials said a creek near the school overflowed from the rain, flooding nearby roads.

School was canceled Tuesday and there was some concern of additional flooding Tuesday night, but officials said classes would resume regularly Wednesday morning.

Some parents said Tuesday they received a text message at 7:05 a.m. alerting them school was canceled. School starts at 7:50 a.m.

As of 7:30 a.m., many parents said they were still unaware school was canceled and were attempting to drop off their kids at school.
