YADKINVILLE, N.C. -- Deputies in Yadkin County are trying to figure out if young women found in a series of naked photographs online are underage area high school students.

Sheriff Rick Oliver said a school resource officer was tipped off about the pictures and the undisclosed website last week. The report indicated the girls were either current or former Yadkin County high school students.

"At this point it is very early in the investigation and we have not identified many of the people in the photographs," Oliver said.

Oliver said it's not going to be easy to figure out if anything illegal has happened since it is not clear how many of the victims are from Yadkin County. It also appears many of the pictures are several years old.

"Our objective, at least at this time, is to determine who they are, how old they are, when these photographs were taken, and if there was a crime committed," Oliver said.

Oliver said the few victims investigators have been able to identify are former students at both Starmount and Forbush High Schools. Those victims no longer live in the area.

Oliver said he's confident the pictures were not taken at either high school.

The website in question has been shut down and investigators say they have removed all the photographs.
