Four charged after 35 lbs of marijuana seized

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — Four people were charged after deputies said they found about 35 pounds of marijuana at a home Tuesday in Watauga County.

Detectives said 35 plants ranging from 2 to 6 feet in height and in various manufacturing stages were seized from 1221 Stone Mountain Road in Vilas.

Deputies said the home was considered a “grow house,” meaning it is used solely for manufacturing marijuana.

A second home was searched at 2145 Stone Mountain Road, the primary residence of Shannon Townsend and Alani Delrios.

Deputies said about 2 pounds of marijuana and $20, 100 was seized during this search.

Scott Edward Townsend. 35, and Alani Heather Delrios, 34, were charged with trafficking in marijuana by manufacture, trafficking in marijuana by possession, maintaining a dwelling CS (F), manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Del Rios was arrested and placed under a $25, 000 secured bond. Townsend has not yet been taken into custody.

Michael Biven, 31; Thomas Joseph Murphy, 29, and Townsend were charged with trafficking in marijuana by manufacture, trafficking in marijuana by possession, maintaining a dwelling CS (F) and manufacture marijuana.

All three received $25,000 secured bonds.  Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
