SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. – Authorities are investigating the death of a Virginia man in a rafting accident in West Virginia.

Media outlets report that 45-year-old Darrin Rennee of Chesapeake, Va., was ejected from a commercial raft near Lower Mash rapids on the Lower Gauley River on Saturday.

Authorities say Rennee swam briefly and was pulled back into the raft. He lost consciousness shortly afterward and was taken by helicopter to a Summersville hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
