RALEIGH, N.C. — A 48-year-old man has been taken into custody after a seven-hour standoff at a Raleigh apartment complex.

Police had evacuated the Westgrove Tower Apartments on Sunday afternoon after a resident called 911 about 4 p.m. to express concern about another resident.

Police said the second person barricaded himself in an apartment and did not respond to attempts to contact him.

Officers evacuated some apartments and stopped about two dozen other residents from returning home.

Police said the standoff ended around 11 p.m. when they broke a window and managed to talk to the man, who surrendered. He was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation. His name was not released.

Police have not said if he had a weapon.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes.
