ELON, N.C. — An Elon University sophomore died at an area hospital early Monday morning after he reportedly experienced breathing problems.
According to The Pendulum, the university’s student-run news organization, Jordan West, of Williamstown, New Jersey, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was taken there by ambulance after his roommates at the Crest apartments called 911 shortly before 3 a.m.
Smith Jackson, Elon’s vice president and dean of student life, informed students and faculty of West’s passing in an email.
Jackson said West was recently honored at the Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards.
The Elon community is invited to an informal gathering in West’s remembrance from 2 to 4 p.m. this afternoon in the Moseley Center, where counselors will be available for those who are grieving.
No other details were immediately available.
