Suspects arrested in car theft, kidnapping in High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. — Two people have been arrested in the case of a car theft and the kidnapping of two small children from a High Point parking lot Monday.
Roger Dale Marks, 49, who has no permanent address, and Mark Carl Weibe, 52, of High Point, were arrested around 9 a.m. Tuesday, High Point Police said.
Both are charged with one count of common law robbery and two counts of first-degree kidnapping.
A tan Honda Accord with two small children inside was stolen from the parking lot of the Food Lion at 110 E. Fairfield Road around 3 p.m. Monday.
Police said two suspects forced a woman tending to the children, ages 1 and 3, out of the car. The woman, who is related to the children, tried to get the children out, but the car sped away, police said.
The children were dropped off at the Fairfield Enrichment Center at 1307 East Fairfield Road shortly after the theft. The children were OK.
The vehicle was found around 9 a.m. Tuesday on Rader Road off Highway 22 in Climax. The suspects were arrested not too far from where the car was found, police said.
Bond amounts hadn’t been determined by the time police issued a news release Tuesday afternoon.
