GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gaston County high school will have to hold its graduation at the football field of one of its rivals after engineers determined its stadium was unsafe.

The Gaston Gazette reported that South Point High School reviewed several options with parents and students after learning the findings from an engineering firm last month.

Principal Gary Ford says the deciding factor was students wanted as many people to come as possible, which made the football stadium at rival Forestview High the best option.

Cherryville High School faced a simila problem after its home side bleachers were found structurally unsound. The school is moving its graduation to its baseball field.

Students will sit in the infield, with guests alongside first and third base and others in chairs around home plate.
