Man arrested in Burlington nightclub shooting

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man was arrested Friday after another man was found shot and injured outside a Burlington nightclub Sunday morning.

Raphael Tomar Carter, 30, of Burlington, allegedly shot a 28-year-old male found in front of 778 Sports Club at 778 S. Graham Hopedale Road around 2:24 a.m.

Police said the victim was taken to UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital with a single gunshot wound to his left side. His current condition was not released.

Authorities said they believe the shooting started after a “large disturbance” between the victim and several others. Officers said there were about 200-250 people at the business when they arrived.

Officials said Carter was arrested around 9:30 a.m. after a warrant was obtained during the police investigation.

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by felon and received a $100,000.00 secured bond.

Carter had already been awaiting court on May 8 on driving charges. No other details were released.
