Crosby Scholars Program plans big growth over next few years
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Forsyth County program that seeks to help every student who applies to attend college is planning on big growth over the next few years.
The Crosby Scholars Program hopes to raise enough money to help 10,000 students in grades 6-12 by 2015. Officials said it will take about $3.7 million to achieve its goal.
Officials from Hanesbrands and Wells Fargo are pledged their support with the capital campaign.
“We feel one of the best things we can invest our dollars in in this community is in our children and doing everything we can to insure they get out of school, get into high school and get on to college,” said Chris Fox with Hanesbrands.
Students who apply for the program get help securing college loans, scholarships, placement services and even grants for those with financial needs.
The program started in 1992. It used to have a celebrity golf tournament as a centerpiece.
