Three killed in melee at Asheville bar

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Three people were killed in a melee at a bar Wednesday night in Asheville.

According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, the brawl broke out at Mike’s Side Pocket at 375 Haywood Road around 9 p.m. All the victims who died were either beaten, stabbed, or both.

Stevie Gene Davis, 52, of Chandler, has been charged with first-degree murder.  A second suspect, Richard Kevin Anderson, 25, of Asheville, is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder.

According to arrest warrants, Davis killed Steven Atwell Wike after Wike killed two other men at the bar. One of the men who was killed was the Davis’s brother, but he and the third victim  who was killed have not been publicly identified.

Davis was arrested Thursday morning and is being held in the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.

One of the victims was able to flee the scene and tried flagging a bus down before he died.  Investigators said there are about 20 witnesses in all.
