REIDSVILLE, N.C. -- A 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse after his five-month-old daughter died over the weekend.

Skihim Daiquan Graves, of Reidsville, was arrested around 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Reidsville Police said in a news release.

Five-month-old Ayniya Graves was found unconscious at Graves' home on North Tipton Place around 11:50 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Ayniya was taken to Annie Penn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

After an investigation by Reidsville detectives, Graves was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

An obituary identified Skihim Graves as Ayniya Graves' father.

No other information about the incident was included in the news release. Reidsville Police referred to the news release when asked for further comment Thursday.

Some friends of Skihim Graves said off-camera Thursday that Skihim tripped up on the stairs and didn't mean to kill his daughter.

Graves was placed in the Rockingham County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 18.

Services for Ayniya will take place Friday afternoon in Reidsville.
