BURLINGTON, N.C. — Deputies say there was a history of domestic violence surrounding a Burlington man’s arrest in connection with the deadly shooting of his 19-year-old neighbor.

Tyson Lavar Jones, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Ana Esmeraldo Henriquez, who was found shot in the front yard of 824 East Hughes Mill Road on Monday by Caswell County deputies.

Henriquez was shot multiple times in the head and torso, deputies said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case, but Burlington police served the arrest warrant at Jones’ home on Monday night around midnight.

Both the suspect and victim resided on McKinney Street in Burlington — Jones in the 2800 block and Henriquez in the 2700 block.

Little details have been released about the investigation, although deputies said it “revealed a history of domestic violence.”

Cpl. Randy Jones with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office said previously there was a 50-B restraining order in place against Jones, but the order was not in effect at the time of the shooting.

Jones was jailed in Alamance County without bond and has a preliminary court hearing slated for April 4.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
