WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A memorial to honor a former Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball player takes place at 4 p.m. Friday at WSSU’s C.E. Gaines Center.

Jillian Rose Charlet, 22, of Brownsboro Road in Winston-Salem, was killed in a single-car wreck Wednesday morning.

Police said Charlet was a passenger in a 2005 Honda Civic headed north in the 3700 block of Cherry St. that lost control at the intersection with Reynolds Boulevard and crashed into a telephone pole around 2:30 a.m.

Police said the driver and another passenger were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

School officials said Charlet was an accounting major from Nabb, Ind. scheduled to graduate in May. She played on the university’s women’s basketball team for three years.
