GREENSBORO, N.C. — Some fourth graders used popsicle sticks among other things to figure out what makes up the strongest bridge.

The students at Claxton Elementary School tested their bridges Thursday to see which design could hold the most weight.

“It’s a great time to spend with your friends and do some work in science,” said Hannah Nguyen, student.

It’s part of an effort from Guilford County Schools and the federal government to get more children to study science and math.

The goal is to get more students prepared for high-tech jobs.
