Burlington robbery victim struck with butt of handgun

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police say a Burlington man was assaulted and robbed while he was walking home Wednesday night.

Ervin Laverne Bains, 50, told police he was walking home on Key Street when he was approached by a white vehicle of an unknown make near Jackson Street shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Bains said two men got outside of the vehicle and hit him with the butt of a handgun. They drove away heading north on Key Street after stealing an undisclosed amount of money and a cigarette lighter.

The first suspect, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was described as a short black male with cornrows. He was wearing a brown shirt at the time of the robbery.

The second suspect, who was driving the vehicle, was described only as a tall black male. He was wearing a white shirt at the time of the robbery.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Alamance Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
