GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The gems you've seen at the gift shop  of the Natural Science Center of Greensboro are now up for sale.

The center is selling rocks such as amethysts, rose quarts, garnets and even petrified wood at deep discounts. The sale comes as the center gets ready for the new 22,000 square-foot  interactive Sciquarium.

"They are not necessarily facet quality, such as the garnets in my hand, but they are beautiful. With a little bit of water and cleaning, they will glimmer beautifully in the sunlight," said Lindsey Zarecky with the Natural Science Center.

The first night of the gem sale ended at 7:30 p.m. Friday, but it starts up again at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
