ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- About 500 people are expected to be helped at a free dental clinic in Rockingham County on Friday and Saturday.

The clinic will take place at Reidsville Christian Church at 2020 South Park Drive in Reidsville. Hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Janet Rakestraw, one of the clinic's coordinators, said the event is open to anyone needing dental care who can't afford it. About two dozen people had already lined up outside a tent by Thursday evening.

Nearly 60 dental chairs will be set up, and a team of dentists and dental hygienists are  donating their time to provide the free services.

The clinic is being provided by the North Carolina Missions of Mercy. It helped more than 8,000 people statewide last year, providing more than $4 million in dental services for free.

About 500 Rockingham County residents received free dental services from the clinic in 2011.
