Judy Brenner on Tuesday morning spoke with Shannon Smith at the Kiwanis Club's Pancake Day in Asheboro.

The Kiwanis Club serves about 5,000 meals on Pancake Day each year and has a reputation for really good pancakes, and this year they honored FOX8's own Rich Brenner.

Judy, Rich's wife, said the event was one of her husband's favorites.

"You know food and people were two of his favorite things.  He loved coming here and I can see why after meeting these people," she said.

Ricky Cox with the Kiwanis Club presented $1,200 checks to two charities in Rich's honor: Operation Smile and Victory Junction.  Kiwanis members said Rich was "very integral part" of what they do.

"His heart was weak physically, but it was not weak in giving to charities and other people," Judy said.  "I'm just so thankful to be here."

Judy said the outpouring of support has been wonderful and that she's in the process of writing more than 1,000 thank-you cards.
