MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — One man from Mocksville and another from Mount Airy have been arrested after police said they stole a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer.

Danny Lee Malone, 21, and Billy Ray Roberts, 18, were each charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a motor vehicle.  In a news release, police said the two confessed to stealing a pickup truck in Mount Airy and then a tractor-trailer in Wytheville, Va.

The 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was taken from a home on Leonard Road last Thursday.  It was found abandoned the next morning on I-77 in Wytheville.

According to the release, Wytheville police then told Mount Airy police about a 1998 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was stolen from the parking lot of a motel.  Mount Airy police found the stolen cab in the parking lot of the Walmart on Rockford Street.

The two suspects were found in the parking lot and attempted to run away, police said.  After being caught, the suspects told police they left the trailer near the intersection of Hwy 89 and Round Peak Church Road, where it was recovered by Surry County deputies.

The suspects were each jailed in Surry County and received $100,000 bonds.
