DURHAM, N.C. — A man was arrested after officials said he tried breaking into a convenience store but was shot at by the clerk Friday morning in Durham.

WTVD reported that a suspect entered an M&M shop at the corner of West Corporation Street around 2:30 a.m. after someone created a hole in the roof.

The store was closed at the time but the clerk said he spent the night to protect the business.

The wounded suspect had reportedly fled the scene by the time officers arrived, but was later arrested on Gurley Street. He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect’s name was not released and it remains uncertain if he will face charges. The clerk is not expected to be charged, WTVD reported.
