JEFFERSON, N.C. — A West Jefferson man was sentenced to at least 100 years in prison Thursday for raping a girl.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that Ray Dean Combs, 58, was convicted in Ashe County Superior Court of eight counts of first-degree rape of a child and eight counts of first-degree sexual offense.

Prosecutors said the abuse occurred from 2009 until May 2010 and started when the girl was 10.

State law requires a minimum sentence of 25 years for a conviction of first-degree rape of a child. Jurors reportedly convicted him in about 90 minutes.
