Man dies in two-vehicle wreck in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A man is dead after his vintage car collided with a van in north High Point on Tuesday.

Stephen Riggs, 66, died after a wreck at the intersection of Highway 311 and Johnson Street around 11:45 a.m., High Point Police said. Police did not release Riggs’ hometown.

Riggs, who was in a 1969 Opel GT, was traveling north on Johnson Street and trying to make a left turn onto northbound Highway 311. His car was struck by a 2005 Honda van traveling south on Johnson Street, police said.

Riggs was taken to High Point Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the van suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash but said neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors.
