Alamance Co. woman pleads guilty in fatal crash

ALAMANCE CO., N.C. — A Gibsonville woman was sentenced to 20 days in jail Wednesday for a traffic wreck that killed a 21-year-old woman July 8 in Elon.

The Burlington Times News reported that Lisa Dianne Sutton, 42, pleaded guilty in the death of Shakeshia Taylor, 21, of Mebane.

Officials said Taylor was pulled over by police on Highway 100 when Sutton struck her vehicle with a Jeep Grand Cherokee at 55 mph around 12:35 a.m.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Elon police officer J.T. Turney was also injured when the Jeep’s mirror hit him, the paper reported.

Sutton was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle.
