FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A school bus driver said she crashed into a ditch to avoid a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Forsyth County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the school bus crashed into a ditch at 4600 Ebert Road off Friedberg Church Road near Winston-Salem around 7:30 a.m.  The bus driver told troopers she swerved off the road to avoid colliding with another car that had crossed the center line.

No students were on board the bus, although the driver injured her finger, according to Rhonda Fleming, the transportation director with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

The damage to the bus was minor, Fleming said.

Fleming said the bus was number 728 leaving from Kimmel Farm Elementary School.

The investigation is ongoing, although troopers said charges are not likely.  No other information was immediately available.
