RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — The driver of a pickup truck was killed when he crashed into the back of a logging truck Tuesday morning in southwest Randolph County.

According to Trooper Campbell, the logging truck was making a right turn into a work area near 6664 Gravel Hill Road at Johnson Farm Road when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck around 7:30 a.m. The driver of the pickup, Terry Vernon Johnson, of 7295 Volunteer Rescue Road in Denton, died in the collision, Campbell said.

Campbell said Johnson may have been distracted or blinded by the morning sun.  The investigation is ongoing.

The roadway was closed for several hours after the crash, but Campbell said it has since been reopened.
