WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl last year.

John David Johnston, 35, of 4370 Ogburn Ave., Apt. 1, pleaded guilty in Forsyth Superior Court to two counts of attempted first-degree rape, two counts of indecent liberties and one count of first-degree sex offense.

Judge William Z. Wood sentenced Johnston to 15 years to 18 years and nine months in prison. He will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. When he is released from prison, he will be on satellite-based monitoring for five years.

The Winston-Salem Journal does not identify victims of sexual abuse or their families.

Last year, the girl ran away from home and was missing for several days, Assistant District Attorney Kia Chavious said in court.
