GUILFORD CO., N.C. — A tanker truck overturned on the I-40 Eastbound ramp at Sandy Ridge Road Thursday morning near Greensboro.

Officials said the wreck happened around 8:30 a.m. and closed the ramp from I-40 East to Sandy Ridge Road.

Authorities said there were no serious injuries.

The tanker was hauling liquid potassium carbonate.  The hazardous material response team was on the scene.

The north and southbound lanes of Sandy Ridge Road over the I-40 bridge and the eastbound exit ramp from I-40 onto Sandy Ridge Road are closed.

The alternate route is Hwy 68 or Gallimore Dairy Road to Market Street. Officials expect the road to be reopened around 6 p.m.

Police said neither weather nor speed were factors in the wreck.  The tanker’s load shifted while exiting and the truck lost its balance, causing it to overturn.

Charges will not be filed.
