Fans of one North Carolina “American Idol” contestant will have to wait a few more days to figure out if he’s among the 13 male semifinalists.

David Leathers Jr., 17, of Fayetteville, was the last one to find out whether he had made the Top 24. He channeled his inner Michael Jackson one more time before learning he wouldn’t make it.

Or that’s what everybody thought.

Just before the show went off the air, the audience was thrown another trademark cliffhanger.

The show flashed up images of Leathers and three other contestants–Jermaine Jones, Richie Law and Johnny Keyser–and said one of them would make an expanded Top 13 males competition. The catch–the audience wouldn’t find out who until Tuesday’s live show. It starts at 8 p.m. only on FOX8.

Chelsea Sorrell, the only North Carolinian who made the Top 25, will perform with 11 other ladies on Wednesday. That live show also starts at 8 p.m. only on FOX8.
