GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 102-year-old man was found dead and his wife injured in what police are describing as an aggravated assault and suicide Wednesday morning near Lake Jeanette.

Police said Theodore Delano Lark Jr. was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after officers responded to reports of shots fired at his home at 5007 Cobbler Ridge Court shortly before 7:30 a.m.  His wife, 84-year-old Gloria Laurette Larkin, was found shot multiple times, police said.

Gloria was taken to Moses Cone Hospital to be treated for the gunshot wounds, which police said were not life-threatening.

Police said nobody else was involved in the shooting, although the investigation is ongoing.

“There is nobody with a gun on the loose.  This is a self-contained incident and all parties are accounted for,” Greensboro police Capt. Mike Richey said.

There is no clear motive at this point, police said.

“Everybody here is kind of wondering what really did take place,” neighbor Cliff Spatz said.  “It seems like it was an internal issue between the couple.”

“He was really a nice guy, very friendly.  I’ve never met her… Never talked to her,” said Linda Oskam, another neighbor.
