DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A man was arrested after deputies found $80,000 worth of marijuana in his van Thursday in Lexington, officials said.

Ismail Abdul Ali, 30, of Charlotte, was pulled over on I-85 North at exit 97 around 2:15 p.m. after deputies said he was following another vehicle too closely.

Deputies said Ali gave officers permission to search the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country minivan he drove after being pulled over.

Authorities said they found two cardboard boxes with 17 pounds of marijuana in saran wrap in vacuumed sealed bags.

Ali was arrested and charged with one count each of trafficking marijuana by possession, trafficking marijuana by transportation, trafficking marijuana by manufacture, maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia.

All charges are felonies except for possessing drug paraphernalia, which is a misdemeanor.

Ali was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond. Other details were not released.
