BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington Police are looking for a man suspected of trying to rob an elderly woman last week in a grocery store parking lot.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Friday at the Food Lion on North Church Street.

The 69-year-old woman told police she had just placed her groceries in her car trunk when a man approached her. The suspect threatened to shoot the woman if she did not give him the ring on her finger, police said.

The woman told police she could not tell whether the suspect had a gun since he had his hands in his pockets.

The woman began to scream, and the suspect ran away after she kicked him on the leg, police said. The woman then went into the store to police since she doesn’t have a cell phone, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s, 6’2″ tall, 170 pounds with a blond goatee and beard. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and toboggan with pants of an unknown color, police said.

Anyone with information on the incident or possible suspects is asked to call CrimeStoppers or Burlington Police at (336) 229-3500.
