THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A 43-year-old man accused of second-degree rape involving a teen posed as a 19-year-old on Facebook, Thomasville Police said.

Kaiffe Gary Aponte, who was arrested Jan. 22 on other charges relating to the case, was given more charges on Wednesday.

The new charges are second-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping. Aponte’s original charge was contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

High Point Police contacted Thomasville Police on Jan. 22 after a 16-year-old girl at High Point Regional Hospital reported a sexual assault at the suspect’s home.

The alleged victim told police she met Aponte on Facebook. However, Thomasville police allege Aponte used an alias account where he posed as a 19-year-old and used a different name.

Aponte is still in the Davidson County Jail, and his bond was increased from $25,000 secured to $100,000 secured. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 29.
