A West Montgomery High School guidance counselor and coach was arrested Wednesday on sex charges involving a student.

Shawn Ira Day, 29, of Troy, has been charged with one count each of sex offense with a student and solicitation of a child by computer.

Montgomery County deputies arrested Day at his home in Mt. Gilead. Officials said he has since resigned and is no longer with the school.

A female student at West Montgomery High School made the allegations that led to his arrest.

The offenses involving this student allegedly took place between the first week of December, 2011 and this week.

Officials said there could be more charges involving other students, but no further charges are expected in this case.

Specific details into the allegations were not provided. Officials said Day has no prior charges.

Day was placed in the Montgomery County jail under $250,000 secured bond and has his first court appearance Thursday.
