Guilford County Schools' graduation rate last year hit a five-year high, and the district has no low-performing schools, Superintendent Mo Green said in his State of Our Schools address Thursday.

The graduation rate was just past 83 percent, well above the statewide graduation rate of 77.9 percent.

Green said end-of-grade reading scores were up slightly over last year, but  they still need to improve.

“Those numbers are not acceptable. There is much more work we need to do in regards to our literacy rate,” Green said.

Green said GCS showed progress on 18 of 23 goals in 2011 and has already met some 2012 goals early.
