Two wanted in death of man found shot near Yadkin River bridge

SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are searching for two men who are wanted in the death of a man who was found shot near the Yadkin River bridge last week in Surry County.

Warrants were drawn Saturday for the arrests of Candido Hermenegildo Castaneda, 35, and Fernando Quizoz Perivan, 30, in the death of Gabriel Paul Valdez Sr., 50, whose body was found near the Yadkin River bridge on Rockford Road around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.

According to a news release, neither suspect has been arrested and investigators are still working to identify a third suspect.

Castaneda, of George Chandler Road in Mount Airy, will be charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Perivan, of Claudville, Va., will be charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder.

No other details about the investigation were released.

The Rockford Bridge spans the Yadkin River on Rockford Road and connects Surry and Yadkin counties.
