RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman was charged after a fatal wreck in which police say she pulled out in front of a motorcyclist who was going almost 35 mph over the speed limit.

Samuel Zachary Johnson, 24, of Chapel Hill, was riding his 2002 Ducati motorcycle on Glenwood Avenue near I-540 East when Carolyn Elizabeth McCormick, 37, pulled out in front of him from a parking lot around 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to a police crash report obtained by WTVD.

The report indicates McCormick was driving about 10 mph as she turned right out of the parking lot.

Police said Johnson, who was traveling at about 80 mph, hit his brakes and skid several times before hitting the back-left corner of McCormick’s 1993 Chevrolet.

The posted speed limit was 45 mph.

Johnson died as a result of the crash.

McCormick was charged with making an unsafe movement and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
