A Michigan university has determined that the word “amazing” is actually not amazing at all.

The word received the most nominations in Lake Superior State University’s List of Banished Words for 2012. Many people said in their nominations that the word is used too much on TV.

“Baby bump,” in relation to a woman’s pregnancy, was a close second in nominations. “Shared sacrifice,” a term used most often by politicians, was third.

“Occupy,” which came from the movement that started on Wall Street and spread across the world this fall, was fourth.

Others among the list of 12 words and phrases include “man cave,” “trickeration” and “ginormous.” For a complete list, go to http://www.lssu.edu/banished/current.php.

The top banished words for 2011, by the way, were “viral,” “epic” and “fail.”
