THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP)— A Thomasville police officer arrested for driving while impaired has been placed on administrative leave.

Capt. Loren Wesley was arrested in High Point for DWI, according to Police Chief Jeff Insley.

Insley said Capt. Wesley was placed on leave while the department investigates the charges. He did not say what day Wesley was arrested.

Insley said the department will wait for “some sort of adjudication” before making a decision. He said this is the first time he can remember a Thomasville police officer has been charged with DWI.

Wesley has worked with the Thomasville Police Department since 1989. He currently oversees the Field Operations Division which includes the Patrol Division, Traffic Enforcement and K-9 Units. He was promoted to his rank as Captain in 2010.
