BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP)— A woman was arrested for breaking into a police car by shattering its window early Saturday morning in Burlington.
Vera Jean Corbett Burnette has been charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and injury to property.
Police say the incident happened at the Burlington Police Department at about 2:50 a.m. An officer was booking a prisoner when he heard a siren coming from outside.
Police say the officer went to check outside and found Burnette had destroyed the driver’s side window and forced herself in.
Officers say Burnette turned the sirens on because she claimed she needed help. An estimated $450 worth of damage was done to the vehicle.
She received a $3,500 bond. Officers say they could not confirm her claim that she needed help.
Further details were not provided. Police did not include a mugshot.
