WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP)— Caterpillar Inc. plans to hold an invitation-only grand opening ceremony for a new facility in Winston-Salem on Wednesday with Gov. Bev Perdue speaking.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. at the plant’s location at 2950 Temple School Road. Perdue is scheduled to speak at 12:45 p.m.

The company announced Winston-Salem as the site for a new facility in July 2010.

Officials say more than 500 workers are expected to be employed when the 850,000-square-foot building is fully operational by 2014.

Lunch and a tour of the facility will be provided.

Caterpillar has been manufacturing construction and mining equipment for more than 85 years.
