  • Pedestrian fatally struck in hit-and-run in Greensboro parking lot

    GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center Wednesday morning. Police responded to the hit-and-run around 11:21 a.m. in the parking lot of 4118 Spring Garden Street. The address belongs to West Market Shopping Center, which appears to house a Cato and a Badcock & More store. Donice Lee Allred, 59, died at the scene from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

    STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Three schools dismissed early Wednesday after the second water main break this week in Stokes County. London Elementary, Walnut Cove Elementary and Southeastern Middle school dismissed at 9:15 a.m. due to no water.     DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — One man is in custody and another is still on the run after two men fled a traffic stop on I-85 in Davidson County Tuesday. As Highway Patrol troopers were executing the traffic stop on northbound I-85 around 1:30 p.m., two of the three suspects fled the car and ran into the woods, according to Sheriff David Grice.   • Surveillance video shows man robbing woman at gunpoint at Thomasville convenience store

    THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Police are searching for a person responsible for robbing a convenience store clerk at gunpoint last week. The robbery happened at the Express Mart at 705 National Highwayon Oct. 6. The clerk told officers that a black male came in the store, pointed a black handgun at her and demanded money.     CLEMMONS, N.C. — The skeletal remains found in the backyard of a home in Clemmons have been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The remains were found on Oct. 5 in the backyard of 2749 Knob Hill Drive. The first victim has been identified as 37-year-old Joshua Fredrick Wetzler.     GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A registered sex offender is facing additional charges after being arrested Oct. 7 in Guilford County. Jason Michael Handy, 41, is charged with three counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts of felony sex offender violations.
