    HIGH POINT, N.C. — A child has died from complications of a near drowning after being pulled from a retention pond last week in High Point, police confirmed Monday. The 2-year-old child died Saturday at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. His identity has not been released.     GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police are investigating two homicides that happened Sunday evening in Greensboro. Police first responded to a double shooting at about 9:30 p.m. on Covey Lane.     SMYRNA, Ga. — A mother is being hailed a hero by her family who say she tragically died protecting her 6-month-old baby.
