ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. – A person driving a moped died after a hit-and-run crash and deputies are still looking for the driver of the other vehicle.

Rockingham County troopers responded to the incident on the US 29 northbound lanes just north of Barnes St. at about 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The moped was hit from behind near the far white line of the right lane, according to Christopher Knox with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

There were skid marks from the vehicle that left the scene showing that the vehicle stopped and leaked a large amount of fluid.

The moped driver was taken to Moses Cone with life-threatening injuries and died Saturday morning.

Troopers are looking for a vehicle that has significant damage to the front middle to front passenger side of it.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information can call the North Carolina Highway Patrol at (336)334-5500.
