SC mother accused of putting 4-day-old son in refrigerator, killing him is out of jail
CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina mother who is accused of killing her 4-day-old son by putting him in the refrigerator was released from jail Thursday afternoon.
Angela Blackwell, 27, who is charged with homicide by child abuse, was given a $25,000 bond in court, WBTV reports. Chester County Detention Center records show she is no longer listed as an active inmate.
Blackwell was charged in August with the Feb. 27 death of her son William. A police warrant said she put the infant in the refrigerator, and after three hours, her family called Chester County Emergency Medical Services.
Prosecutors also found that she had documented “special needs,” but was found competent to stand trial.
Several people close to Blackwell spoke as well, asking the judge to be fair with his decision.
“Angie don’t have a violent bone in her, and as far as leaving – if this child got out, it would just mean Christmas to her. It wouldn’t mean that she would go nowhere. She’ll be around people that love her and that will be there for her,” said family friend Rhonda Doster.
Blackwell faces life in prison if convicted.
