NC couple sends kidnapped girl found chained to a tree to Disney World
WILMINGTON, N.C. — A single act of kindness can quickly turn a situation around.
In September, 6-year-old Stefanny Lenneth Lopez-Castro was kidnapped from her driveway in Wilmington, according to WECT. The next morning, she was discovered chained to a tree, physically unharmed.
After hearing about the horrific incident, couple Charlene and Robert LaVecchia wanted to help Lopez-Castro and her family through their hard time.
“We knew there were probably three people that could make the family feel better,” Robert said. “Two being Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and the third being Goofy, to make them laugh.”
Robert called Disney World and explained the child’s story, and several weeks later, the family was preparing for a week-long Disney vacation.
“She’s just a little girl who is going to grow up to be a very strong woman,” he said. “She’s strong enough that she will overcome this, and we hope that if she does ever feel a little down over it, she thinks of Minnie.”
The families say they are thankful for their lasting friendship.
